JJ Adler

JJ Adler is an award winning director and writer who helped create comedy spots for all kinds of companies including GEICO, P&G, SC Johnson, Virgin Mobile, Nestle, Coke, Verizon, McDonalds, etc., and with The Martin Agency, McCann, R/GA, Mother, Droga5, Ogilvy & Mather, Grey, DDB, VMLY&R, PKT, JWT, BBDO, and many more. 

She was a founding creative and Head Director at The Onion’s Peabody award winning webseries "The Onion News Network” as well as co-executive producer and director on season 1 of the The Onion's 2011 IFC TV series. Her short dark comedy, NEW MEDIA premiered at Sundance 2010 where it won several awards. And in 2008 her short doc Unattached won a Student Academy Award.

In the summer of 2020, Adler launched her own full service US commercial production company, Ruckus Films which represents a small roster of talented directors including JJ herself. Outside of the US, she’s on the roster of Circle Productions in Canada, HunkyDory Films in the UK, Soup Film in Berlin, and Hobby Film in Scandinavia. In 2018 she released a short film, Places, Thank You Places written by and starring Gary Richardson (SNL). 

JJ directed sketches all across Netflix’s critically acclaimed, Kenya Barris produced Astronomy Club: The Sketch Show as well as several episodes of Adam Ruins Everything.

Currently, JJ is either directing more commercials, working on a short, her first feature, or talking to her dog in a truly insane voice. She holds an M.F.A. in film directing from Columbia University.
